Hi Raiz
From what I've seen on here it varies. Check out the forms on the DIMIA
website for medicals, but I can't recall any request on the forms for
family history of illness. We went to Harley Street for our medicals and
the doctor was very unintrusive, asked us how much we weighed and how
tall we were, took our blood pressure and listened to our chests/hearts
and prodded our stomach. He asked for the prescription for our glasses.
A quick urine dipstick and that was it! If you want the address you can
find him on the DIMIA websited under "panel doctors", if you want his
name I will pm you.
I remember worrying because my Mum died of breast cancer, and even
though I had to fill in that she was deceased, nobody asked what had
caused it, or wanted to check me.
Some people have had 40-minute check-ups, think it depends who you go to
and what you have to put on the form.
If you have never had any symtpoms, I don't think they need to know!
It's worth remembering that we now have the ability to tell anybody
whether they will develop Parkinsons disease, Hutchinsosns disease and
all sorts of other nasties on the basis of reading their DNA. If DIMIA
wanted to predict everybody's future on the basis of their parents, they
could always insist on a DNA test!! I think we are fortunately a long
way away from our genes determining whether we can immigrate, get life
insurance etc...
Just because of the sad illnesses you have seen in you family, it does
not mean you will contract the disease.
Wishing you luck
Claire.
