Subject: Custody agreement or no visa?? Posted on: Thu, 13 Oct 2005 01:10:07 +0000

Feeling really down. I have asked my case officer on numerous occasions
if she needed any further paperwork, but have had no reply.

I'm a lone parent who never married my daughter's father, and thus am
unable to get a court order giving me sole custody, as I already have
it!! I sent DIMIA copies of the UK legislation in the Children Act and
a copy of their own regulations, stating that the decision should be
made on the basis of th child's country of origin. I have seen a
solicitor, who has seen a Barrister to check, and there is no Court
order that I can get.

Luckily we now have written consent from the father, prepared by the
solicitor, confirming that he has no responsibility and that he grants
permission for my daughter to go. I sent a certified copy to Adelaide,
and in the same style as the medicals that has been delivered to the
business unit but never reached the case officer. The medicals finally
got to her desk when I found out who had signed for them 2 weeks later!!

She now tells me that this is still insufficient, and not only does she
want a Statutory declaration, but a certified copy of the father's Birth
certificate or passport (he hasn't got one!!), even though he has no
parental responsibility.
He never sees his daughter, so it's getting absolutely stupid. I really
feel like just giving up and staying here!! Two days away from the
deadline for handing in a PhD thesis and now this.

I detest people on power trips...
