The pets thing can be very tricky coming from the US. Australia
requires long quarantine periods for pets coming from North America,
and also requires that you have done prep work in advance to ensure
that they are rabies free. They also need to be "chipped". See the
following for more details:
http://www.affa.gov.au/content/output.cfm?ObjectID=816BF731-A4B9-4A6C-

As for the car - I agree with Cath - leave it in the US. If you don't
plan on being in Australia for too long then perhaps you can have it
stored somewhere, otherwise just sell it. It will probably be a royal
pain to import it, and will also probably cost big $$.
Moving furniture is not too expensive, depending on how much you have.
It can be much more expensive to purchase all new stuff when you get
there. If you have a decent relocation package there is a good chance
they will cover at least some level of household good shipping. It will
go by boat of course, so will take 6-12 weeks to get there.
Cheers,
Brian
