No restriction at all on Travellers Cheques.

None on cash either - BUT you are required to declare cash over $10,000AUD
in value. Immigration would then probably want to confirm just how you
acquired said cash - and expect some indication of what you proposed to do
with it. They're laws put in place to inhibit cash laundering by organised
crime, drug dealers, terrorists etc.

Frankly you'd have to be mentally deficient to risk carrying over a couple
of hundred in cash anyway!
