I had a similar problem. I can't RENEW my passport until it's valid for
6 months only. My passport expires on October this year, so I had to
wait until APril. The other solution was to obtain a NEW one... but
that meant my VISAs will no longer be in the valid passport. I emailed
mi CO and she said it's ok if my passport is valid until October...
that I can renew it later in April. No new passport is needed.
