i went the prospective marriage route, it was all simple enough and took
less than a month to come through once we finally applied. the only
downsides we found were that he had to organise almost the whole wedding
on his own being in australia, and that it takes quite a long time to
become a permanant resident....plus you have to apply for a second
temporary visa after the marriage.
