Subject: phd thesis - "writing up away" status and visa Posted on: Wed, 10 May 2006 14:54:18 +1000

Hello,

I am pursuing my PhD degree in Australia. I plan to apply to be in a so
called "writing up away" status. This status will enable me to write up
my thesis, and not pay tuition fees at the university. Does anyone know
the implications to my student visa?

My visa is valid until Jan 2008. However, one condition of my visa is
that I have to be enrolled full time at my university. Now, if I apply
for "writing up away", technically I am not enrolled anylonger. Does
this mean that I have to leave Australia? I have received conflicting
information about this. Is anyone able to tell me what would happen to
my visa if I write up my thesis (and I am not "really" enrolled)?

Thanks!
Chris
