My wife had the same problem back at easter - we didnt have the visa
and being a teacher she had to give a terms notice.
She gave her notice meaning that to work till the summer holidays -
otherwise she would have had to work until Christmas.
Luckily she has a week left at work and we can go as soon as the
house sells.

Im currently off sick from work (Stress at Work) as my colleagues and
employer are pissed off with me for planning to go to Aus and have made
my life hell since I got the Visa.
Having to overhear them slagging me off and making personal remarks -
stinks of Jealousy that i'm moving to a better place.
I have no intention of returning to work and intend to send a months
sicknote in along with my letter of resignation a week on friday.
Not the best way of ending a 4 year working relationship - but at least
i'm not out of pocket (never had a day sick in 4 years).
Know for a fact that they would give me a shite reference now....

I have negotiated two good references - one is a previous manager in a
different department - the other is my Ex boss who left in January and
now works at IBM.
Surely if you sign the contract and then change your plans then they
can't not provide a reference - If possible look for good references.
Do you have a friend who has his own business and has an email address?
You could always 'Manipulate' your CV in a way as not to damage your
future prospects.
Whatever decision you make - will be the right one - I'm a great
believer of this!
