Subject: Current employer reference by colleague acceptable? Posted on: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 12:49:39 +0000

I'm likely to apply for a 136 Skilled Worker Visa in the near future.
Just got the skills assessment results back from ACS the other day.

I was wondering if anyone has successfully lodged and got their Visa
approved without having a detailed Employer Reference written by a
manager, from the current employer? I realize DIMIA may call the
employer's office anyway for checks.

I was thinking about doing the following as an alterative to go to my
manager at this stage:

1. Having a colleague write a Employer Reference
2. Including my employment contract, which states starting date,
position, full-time, salary - but not any technical detalils of the
work I do.
3. Including a number of payslips to support this reference

Should I ask my manager for a detailed Employment Reference, as opposed
to a "H.R" style, I will have to explain myself and I would prefer to
wait doing that until further down the Visa application process. I've
heard this is sometimes acceptable for the Skills Assessment, but I'm
not sure how DIMIA will handle it?

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy
