Presumably you were notified that the case was dropped? It is probably a
case that your local Force has not updated the Police National Computer
with the fact that the case has been dropped.
I suggest a polite letter to the local Chief Constable of the Force,
enclosing a copy of the police check. Explain the need for the check -
immigration - and explain that you would like to know why the offence is
still on there when the case is not being proceeded with.
It should be a simple matter of the police locating the file, and the
computer being updated. Once that is done you can obtain another check -
which will not show the charge. In the meantime if you need to send the
check to DIMA now, I suggest that you send them a letter explaining what
you have eexplained in your post on here, and enclosing a copy of the
letter to the Chief Constable.
It shouldn't affect your visa anyway, but the Police have a legal
obligation to remove charges that are not proceeded with, and many of
them only come to light because of checks like this.
Polly (who has fond memories of updating the PNC herself when cases like
this came to light!)
