Similar rumblings here also. The Aus government isn't happy with what
happened in the middle east either with respect to all the "citizens" there
that demanded rescue. I can see the point of the countries not liking it.
There are millions around the world who have dual citizenship just so they
can escape the strife that flares up in the place of their true home. They
go to Canada, Australia... waite long enough to get citizenship then move
back to where ever they from. Many haven't been back to the country in
years. But when strife hits they start whinging as to why the government
didn't come and rescue them.
Not sure if it's true or not, there should be someone here who knows better,
but technically Australia doesn't allow dual citizenship. But has chosen to
ignore it in most cases. I've met a few PRs here from non-commonwealth
countries that have said they were refused citizenship because they weren't
prepared to give up their original citizenship.
