So, the answer is yes, you will need an Aussie license. I got one, and
I'm a US citizen:)

I didn't need to take any tests, and you won't either. If you have had
your US license for 3 or more years, you'll be given a standard full
license. If you've had it any less, depending on lenght, you could be
issued a provisional license. In this case you would have to attach a
big P to your car:) But, you still would not need any test.

You need two forms of identification, and they need to be one from each
of two lists. Read all about it on the RTA website:

Also, if you've had a license for more than 3 years, but it expired and
you renewed it recently, you need to bring the old license with you.
That's the only way to prove more than 3 years to them. They will not
take your US license, you can keep it.
