There was not a requirement, under Australian law, for people
naturalising as Australian to reliquish their existing citizenship - at
least not since Australia enacted its own citizenship laws. Any such
requirement must therefore have come from these PRs' original country of
citizenship.
And since 2 April 2002, Australian citizens are not required to
relinquish Australian citizenship if they become citizens of
another country.
And even before then, Australia allowed double citizenship in many
various circusmstances.
