I hope so as that is my plan!

While working on a 457 all the visa options are open to you, you can
start applying for a normal PR visa if you have enough points to qualify
or if you are qualified enough you can go for an employee sponsored visa
(ENS) which is similar to your 457 but gives you PR (But takes longer
than a 457).

Or if you are like me and do not have the recognized qualification for
your job you can wait two years and get your employer to sponsor you for
an ENS based on your 2 years experience in Aus. (1 year must be spent
with current employer).

I think though i have enough experience to qualify for an ENS so will be
trying that as soon as i get to Aus, feels more secure on a PR. (that
was what my original post was asking as i am a bit confused on that one,
but i have 8 years experience in my job and that is what is asked in
lieu of qualifications)

If i am wrong or missed something here then i am sure someone will point
it out, there are a lot of people more expert than me on this subject.
