Residency requirements for Australian Citizenship Posted on: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 03:47:24 +0000 (UTC)

Hi Guys:

I became an Australian PR in July 2005. I would like to find out about
how long a person holding an Australian PR is required to be physically
present in Australia to apply for citizenship. I've read in the DIMA
website that the Australian government is considering implementing a 4
year residency requirements but am not sure if this has come to pass. I
think the current requirement is 2 years.

Does the 4 years apply to people who are newly applying for pernanent
residency or does it apply to people who are currently permanent
residents and who are living overseas and yet to move to Australia?

Would be glad if someone could throw some light on this.

Thanks
