I am far from an expert but as you've had no replies..........

Nope you do not need an agent for a 457. You can contact employers
direct and they can assist you.

However, why do you want a 457 visa? Are you hoping to move permanatley,
because a 457 is a temporary visa with many restrictions? Much better to
apply for 136PR instead, if you have the 12months experience, or even a
state sponsored 134, that requires 6months(though i note you wish to go
to Brisbane-believe Queensland do not offer this at present). Regional
Sponsored Migration Scheme is also an option (no experience!).

Plenty posts on this website where 457 has worked, some where it hasn't.
My experience with aussie work colleagues is that plenty of Brits come
unstuck on 457 and regret not applying for 136.

Best of luck
