Hi CurlyGirl,

I was in the same boat till last year, I was short of 5 points and did
not have any idea what to do. Things changed and this is what happened:

My wife got an opportunity to come here to South Australia for a
research program and we came here on Student Visas, I got an open work
permit and joined a company in Adelaide as Database Analyst.

Then I got another offer from Gold Coast and they offered me 457 visa
and we moved to Gold Coast. I did all this because I wanted to finish my
6 months of full-time work in Australia which gives you 5 bonus points
to make it 120 altogether.

But to my surprise, in end of September 06, just when I was about to
complete my 6 months job here in OZ, Oracle DBA skills were put on MODL
which gives me 15 extra points and now the whole situation has changed.

So, to cut it short, there are several methods, such as:

1. invest 100k and get 5 points
2. get a job offer for 457 visa, work for 6 months to get 5 points
3. look for states where IT is on demand list for STNI
4. what about bonus points for spouse skills ?

I remember, South Australia has few IT Skills on demand list for STNI
and SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER is perhaps one of them. Try their official web
site. Besides this I think another option you have is to consider NSW's
STNI program where you'll find many IT SKills.

PS: Are you sure, you cant get your place in any of the currently listed
MODL skills ?

PP do you realize once you turn 35, you'll lose another 5 points ?
