Spouse visa Posted on: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 01:37:55 +0000 (UTC)

Hi,

I am an australian permanent resident, and my wife is a singaporean
citizen. Both of us are currently working in Singapore. We want to
move back to Australia (where I lived for almost two years) but we are
facing some difficulties with the spouse visa.

We wanted to apply for her visa from Singapore, but the Australian
commission told us that they wanted a proof that I was moving back to
Australia. I could not find any such requirements in any of the
booklets, but they were very persistent on this point.

Since my PR expires soon, we are considering that I move to Australia
without a job, and apply for her Visa once I am there. Is it possible
to sponsor my spouse if I am unemployed? Would it require Assurance of
Support?

Also, would it be possible for my spouse to come to Australia on a
tourist visa while we apply for her spouse visa?

Thanks
Diego
