The Nazi's came to power because of huge societal changes brought on by
economic conditions caused by World War One reparations Germany was forced
to pay. This virtually destroyed the countries social order by nearly
bankrupting the country. Hilter offered to give Germans back their self
respect and provided someone to blame. Al Queada is much the same thing.

Social change occurs gradually when shifts in behavior become mainstream,
an example being drinking while driving and smoking. Once DWI was almost a
joke, " I don't know how I got home, ha, ha," now it's considered socially
unacceptable, smoking is now frowned upon and smoker's are a minority. I
would consider these just one of the many positive changes in the last 20
years.
