Subject: Which category to apply Posted on: Sun, 16 Nov 2003 17:53:44 +0000 (UTC)

I am deck officer water transport by occupation and hold master
mariner cert of competency but have not sailed on board the ships
since 1983- instead I have beed working as Ship chartering broker
since 1990- My syllabus for Master Mariner's exams also contained
subjects like Ship Master business and Law, Marine Insurance and
Protection and Indemnity clubs application- Will my master mariners
qualification would be sufficient to satisfy that i also fulfill the
required basic knowledge for ship broker- I am also Fellow of Indian
Conucil of Arbitration for shipping disputes but have not yet
arbitrated any case. In my current occupation I have been providing
support to Protection and Indemnity clubs to cases that are currently
and also in past were under arbitration.

Though I do not possesse a formal certification exclusive for ship
broking and operation which is my current occupation but would my
qualification as master mariner (deck officer)and subsequent
experience and expousre to ship broking and chartering would satisfy
immigration authty to treat my current occupation as an extension of
my basic qualification

also please advise what documents i have to produce in support- Will
the work experience certificate from previous employers stating that
my duties include ship broking and chartering would be sufficient

Kindly advise

Kind regards/Kumar
