Subject: The Landing Experience - quick and easy Posted on: Sat, 3 Jul 2004 04:17:11 +0000 (UTC)

I landed with my family on June 11, 2004 from Dubai, UAE. It was a
very pleasant journey and we had absoluetly no problems anywhere.

Here are the details.

1. Once we landed in Toronto we went to Immigration counter and told
them we are landing as immigrants. They checked our customs card
(which everyone fills up in the plane) and wrote something in pink on
it.

2. Once done they directed us to a special area for immigrants.

3. We were the only ones so they just immediaetly asked to come and
take some digital photos.

4. Then a nice lady visa officer just filled up the RECORD OF
PERMANENT RESIDENCE forms (which we had received in a big brown
envelop) and asked us to sign.

5. She did not ask us anything about money though we brought along a
cashier's check for CAD 10,000. She just asked if we ever had any
problem with any immigration anywhere to which we replied no. She then
asked us for a Canadian address and we provided our friend's.

6. Then she said WELCOME TO CANADA and told us to go ahead.

7. We walked to a counter where a guy gave us some forms for SIN card
and some nice guides etc.

8. Then we walked to the customs and told them that we were immigrants
(YOU MUST TELL THEM THIS or they will not guide you to the right
place).

9. We then proceeded to the correct CUSTOMS area and gave them our
lists. These guys did not even look at our list and just stamped
everything without asking us anything.

10. EVERYONE WAS SO SWEET and kept saying WELCOME TO CANADA.

The whole process was completed within 30 mins after we landed.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU, and thanks to this forum for my successful
journey to becoming a Canadian Resident!

Regards
Gilbert
