Hi All
i hope you can help me help my british friend who is trying to
immigrate to canada to be with is canadian wife.
they met about 4 years ago in canada while he was visiting and he came
over to canada quite often for 6 month stays as a visitor. The more
time went on, the more immigration officers at the airport gave him a
hard time as he ended up spending more time here that back in his
native country england.
Anyway, he came to canada in august this year and got 6 months in his
visitors visa and they married in montreal in the middle of october
this year and planned to apply sponsor inland.
Anyway, he didn't get his application in for inland sponsorship and
decided to return to england for 3 weeks to 'tie up some loose ends'
before coming back to canada to apply inland. He arrived back in
canada yesterday and got a hard time at customs at the airport. They
stamped his passport and he asked if this meant he could stay for 6
months, they said yes but when he was reunited with is wife and they
got back home, they saw his passport was only valid on visitor visa in
canada until January 1st 2005!!!!!!!!!!!
How can he apply inland in this time?? he has not done medicals,
fingerprints or anything? The extension of his visitors visa takes 44
days at present and xmas is coming up and the offices close?? it seems
at the airport the customs officer gave him a hard time as to why on
earth he hadn't applied for pr inland right after they got married.
What can he do? He cannot apply for inland and use that as an excuse
to overstay his visitors visa and does not have enough time to extend
the vistors visa. Even the medicals take 1 month to have results back.
It really seems as though the immigration officers have got tired with
his stories and his coming and goings in canada as a 'visitor'
any ideas on what he should do? if the CIC closed for xmas then he has
about 2 weeks to sort something out before he has to leave the country
on Jan 1st 2005
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks
