Hi Mark,
Nice to see Osama making his way into Canadian arguments as well, we've
seen him and 9/11 play into every possible economic and social policy
in the US, is he going to decide our policies now too?
Following your reasoning, there are also customs officers, provincial
police, city police... heck, even parking enforcement should be able to
detain those deemed illegal immigrants and deport them with no
questions ask, and no chance of appeal... see where I'm going with
this? The law currently gives immigration officers the right to turn
someone away, and does not give that person the right to appeal the
decision. This changes a bit if the person is admitted, and changes a
lot if s/he applies for asylum or is an immigrant applicant or
something.
This is the Canadian law and must be respected, but that does not
prevent criticism. Our laws have changed over the years and will
continue to change, and our criticism fuels these reviews and changes.
