Hey Everyone,
I was hoping that some of you who have experience in
immigrating to Canada could help me figure out the
best way for me to approach it.
I am attending college in the USA and I would like to move to
Vancouver. I actually applied to Simon Fraser University (SFU) which
is located just outside of Vancouver in Burnaby. I was accepted as a
transfer student from my current university and although it would
have been great to graduate from SFU because I'd then be able to
apply for residency under the provincial immigration laws of BC, I
only have a year left at my current school and financially it makes
more sense for me to graduate from there. Not to mention that finding
a job would probably be easier after graduating from a local
university (or am I wrong on that?).
My main dilemma is what to do now. It seems to me that I should try
applying for jobs in Vancouver as I approach graduation and then let
things progress from there (e.g work permit, then temporary/permanent
residency applications, etc...). The kicker is that I am not sure how
to get a job there. I am not special- so how can a company say that I
need to do the job instead of a Canadian? I need to be sponsored by a
company but how would this happen?
Basically, I am just curious as to how I should go about getting a
job and what my prospects are for doing so, being that I'll be
graduating from a U.S. university and am a U.S. citizen.
Hopefully, in a year I'll be on my way to the West coast (P.S. I am
living in Chicago right now)!
