Why wouldn't you just go down the night before, and only pay for one
night in a motel? Chances are that a bus or train will get you there
at some point during the day before the interview.
Although I don't know for sure, my guess is that they'd look upon
multiple cancellations relatively unfavourably. Yes, the weather has
been bad, but it's not like canceling a doctor's appointment...this is
something that is going to affect the rest of your life.
We used to live in a small town (in the snow belt) as well, but it was
an extremely rare occasion that there wasn't at least one bus or train
out of it once a day to get us to a larger centre.
