Dear Experts,
I am a Canadian citizen - have been a citizen in Canada for over
thirty years. In the early eighties, I had sponsored my parents for
immigration to Canada - they came, stayed for a year and two months,
and returned back to dispose of their property etc. with the intent to
return to Canada shortly - even applied and got a returning resident
permit.
Things did not go as planned, and they did not manage to clear their
responsibilities and come back - their returning resident permit also
elapsed at that time.
Now, my father has recently passed away, and hence my mother, age 82,
is alone. My dad was healthy and independent, and managed the home -
now, there is no one else to take care of my mother there.
I am wondering if there is any way that my mother can come back to
live with me here in Canada in the near short term of a few weeks/
months by reviving her earlier PR status. I realize it has been a
while since she went back, but now with the passing away of my father,
the situation has changed drastically and it has become imperative she
come and stay with me in Canada at the earliest.
If we reapply for PR status, it could take a few years, and being
quite dependent, my mother would be inconvenienced my many ways not to
have someone from immediate family take care of her in this time.
What would you advise is the best way forward?
I am grateful for your time and advice.
Thanks!
