Forget voter ID, it's DOA in Obama's America

Don't lose too much sleep over the Texas Legislature's failure to pass a
law which would strengthen voter identification requirements and reduce
voter fraud. It's clear the Obama Justice Department would never allow it:
ATLANTA ¡X The Justice Department has rejected Georgia's system of using
Social Security numbers and driver's license data to check whether
prospective voters are citizens, a process that was a subject of a federal
lawsuit in the weeks leading up to November's election.
In a letter released on Monday, the Justice Department said the state's
voter verification program is frequently inaccurate and has a
"discriminatory effect" on minority voters. The decision means Georgia must
halt the citizenship checks, although the state can still ask the Justice
Department to reconsider, according to the letter and to the Georgia
secretary of state's office.
The state can ask the Justice Department to reconsider. Good luck with
that, Georgia.
This surely means another Georgia measure designed to cut down on voter
fraud - one requiring new voter registrants to show proof of citizenship to
be eligible - is doomed as well. The law is scheduled to go into effect in
January, assuming Obama's DOJ approves. We now know that donkeys will fly
before that law will.
There can be little doubt about the effect of Obama's decision: It opens
the floodgates for anyone who can drive, walk or take publicly-subsidized
transportation to a polling precinct to cast a ballot - regardless of his
citizenship status. This comports perfectly with the dreams and desires of
Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, who covet the votes of illegal aliens, felons
and others once upon a time ineligible. It also is more than a small step
toward ensuring a permanent Democrat majority by potentially permitting
millions of illegal tallies, the vast majority of which - coincidentally -
would go to candidates in Obama's party. (Mind you, this is the same
administration that wants to count illegals in the census - the tool used
to apportion U.S. House seats among the states - and to use the
not-so-squeaky-clean organziation ACORN to help.)
Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Karen Handel laid it on the line:
"Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy."
We knew many Democrats desperately wanted to win back the South. I'm not
sure we wanted to admit that some would even facilitate illegal conduct to
do it.
Perhaps an enterprising journalist will pose the following question to
Obama and his DOJ minions: "Exactly what can a state do to ensure that a
person is eligible to vote?"
I fear the answer would be a profound silence, which itself speaks volumes.
