| I see. "L" stands for lawful. I never thought there is such a thing
| as "unlawful *permanent* residence" to differentiate from permanent
| residence that is only given through legal process.
Right now, there a millions of UNlawful Permanent Residents living in the
US. Some of them are overstays and EWIs (Entry Withount Inspection). If the
law did not include the word "lawful" to the term, technically those who
have maintained abode here in the US for quite a while are Permanent
Residents.
