If you have good relations with your current employer, you may ask them for
a favor - take "leave without pay" for as long as possible. If your company
is not dying right now, you may ask your employer for a "vacation" without a
pay. They may "lay off" you when you will return back. I know quite a few
people, who survived with this. This will give you a time to find new
employer, and as soon as they will file H1B transfer, you can be layed-off
without losing a status.
