Subject: Re: F1 student, funding and Green Card (DV2005) mess Posted on: Thu, 15 Jul 2004 23:03:11 +0000 (UTC)

I say that if you become out of status (and have to leave US as a
result) before you can do adjustment of status, why not write to
Kentucky Office ir whatever office that you would like to switch to
Consular Processing because your are going out of US?

Since you already did medical, may be you won't have to do it again
if do CP.

BTW, can you get onto OPT if you don't get antoher project? See Int'l
Student Office can work with you on that. That would give you some
time to find another project and also keep you in status.

Hope you get another project in your dept. But, you can also start
applying for another school and tranfer there. From what I have heard,
you can do reinstatement to F-1 if it is within 5 months after losing
the status. If the new school knows you won DV, they might not do
reinstatement for you.

BTW, under the situation that you are in, you can approach the Int'l
Student Office to help you apply for EAD (work permit) that would
allow you to work off-campus. Then may be you can still do course work
to be on F-1 while workigng off campus. At least, that way you get
some income for food and rent. I say use Credit Card for tuition fees
like a lot of students do.
