Subject: Got a US Job offer but don't have a Degree ... Will the US Gov find out? Posted on: Fri, 3 Sep 2004 22:16:47 +0000 (UTC)

Curious...

I currently have finished 3 years of my planned 4 year Bsc degree. I
have received a job offer in the U.S. (i am Canadian). From the
employer's perspective i am very much qualified to work for them.
They have done a legitiamte and extensive job search in the U.S. for
someone to fill their job position but have found no one that fits
it...however, they have found me and i am fully capable of taking on
the job. The problem i belive the Department of Labor requires that i
have an advanced degree (4 years i believe) before i can get a
legititate work visa to work for this U.S. Company. Is there a
possiblity of still getting the work visa without this full 4 year
degree because the employer deems me more than capable despite not
having the degree?

My question to you is, can i just "bullshit" my way into saying that i
have my degree (despite only finishing 3 full years of my 4 years for
that degree) and just say to my employer that i do have this degree
and on my Form to the Department of Labor for the "Immigrant Petition
for Alien Worker" i provide proof that i have my degree by showing
them my transcript of my grades (seeming as if i did complete all 4
years)?

The employer i will be working for in the U.S. has already done
extensive tests on me to prove that i am capable of taking the
job...and they definitely want me... the only thing is i just dont
have my degree yet. I think if i told them i dont have a degree they
would still hire me, it is just the U.S. Government that may not allow
me to work in the US since i dont have this degree yet.

Does anyone know if the U.S. government does an extensive check on my
school background to verify that i do indeed have a degree? If they
do do a check do they do it immediately or will i be granted the visa
and say like 4 months into my position there is the possiblity that
Immigration Officers might come a-knockin' on my U.S. apartment door
and deport me becuase i dont have a degree (despite being able to
fullfill the job's requirements)?

Please be as thorough as you can in your reply.

Thanks
