Hi everyone! Hope you're all doing well - I kind of am, just need to
sort out THIS little problem! :)
My name is Britain and I am 19 from England. I am currently at
University in America on exchange as part of my course in England. I
love England, but I also love America where most of my family (but not
direct parents) and friends live.
I am an enthusiastic individual who knows what he wants in life. The
greatest thing I want in life however is to be allowed to live in
America. Now, coming from a country where we let a huge amount of
immigrants in, give them free housing, health care and education AND
we are the greatest ally of the United States of America (Bush &
Blair) - why oh why is it so ridiculously hard for a hard working
English guy to just pack up and leave English shores to live in
America?
I want to live in America because I love the people, the space, and
dare I say it, the culture too. I am not fleeing from a country that
is impoverished and has a low standard of living. Ask 9 out of every
10 English people if they would rather live in America and they will
say no. So given that, I find it utterly plain and stupid that I am
not allowed to live in America if I so chose. After all, Americans
came to America to escape England initially - I want to do the same
thing, just in the 21st century. By the way, England is actually a now
far more liberal country than America. We actually have bars and clubs
ON-COLLEGE-CAMPUS unlike here. Furthermore apparently we have 6-pubs
for every church. America seems to be so conservative now, with
religious and political fanatics in your face everywhere - it is
things like this which make me see the good points about England, and
how ironic it is that people left England to escape religious
persecution. Nowadays in England its more like - what religion? Huh?
How do you even spell that word? Times have changed, my friend.
Now, this drives me crazy. The USA has a green card lottery which
gives green cards to various poor countries, and yet not to their
closest friend England which I find strange considering are incredibly
close relationship.
I am on this planet only once, unless I chose to be reincarnated. I
know what I want in life. So what some silly law says about my not
being able to live in America unless getting married or proving no
other American can do the same job as me I don't view with very high
regard. It's in this situation that I in no way regard illegally
obtaining a Social Security Number something of an issue which is
ethically challenged. Ethically I have every right under the sun to
live in a country where education and health is nothing more than a
money making scheme. And ethically I have every right to immediately
be allowed to live here, work hard and be a good citizen from the word
Go.
So if, in my heart, I want to move to America and work hard like many
other people here, then I'm not going to let your laws stop me. I
don't care how this has to be achieved, although to overcome your
silly immigration issues then I'll just have to do it illegally. Given
my good intent, I view the only thing which is illegal to be the laws
stopping me from living here.
Many people would tell me I'm better off in England, even my own
parents have. After all I get good free education, health care and
living - which is why I find it even more frustrating that I'm still
not allowed to move away from this. Doesn't it show that I'm at least
entitled to something so comparable?
It is for this reason, (and I am but a poor student) that I am
appealing to ANYONE out there who might be able to help, or who may
know of, some contact who I could speak to in getting a social
security number created. And for those of you who are crazy and think
this is illegal then think again - is it really wrong for me with a
patriotic desire to live in America rather than England to achieve
this in such an underhand way? Perhaps if the government didn't make
it so unnecessarily strict for good British citizens to immigrate here
easily then I wouldn't have such a cause to make a fuss, but that's
not my fault. And don't tell me about overcrowding either, America has
a huge amount of space, unlike England, and our services are so
overstretched due to our generosity to everyone out there - shame
America couldn't extend the same courtesy.
My friends here in America who would love me to become American and
think I would actually make a model citizen often ask me what the
first thing I would do here if I could stay here on a permanent legal
(after ironically being FORCED to acquire a Social Security Number
ILLEGALLY) basis. I told them, as a student I would take a pride in
being able to get a job in someplace like Meijers doing something
simple and ordinary like everyone else - not something I aspire to do
when I am older. Living here as an exchange student currently, I
cannot work or vote which I find depressing.
Forgive my enthusiasm for wanting to contribute to the economic and
social well being of America - if you know of anyone I could speak to
who might know how I could obtain a SSN then let me know! After all,
let's be realistic, I personally deserve every right to live in this
country (USA) as you do, so within reason (I am poor) I am prepared to
do what it takes to achieve this.
My greatest thanks!
Britain
