From H1B to Permanent Resident

Hi,

I am a little confused and I would apreciate if someone could please
help me out. I got last september my working permit (H1B). Now I am planning
in applaying for a Permanent residency. I saw that I need to get first an
immigration visa and I am not sure how to do that. Could anyone instruct me
what to do? Thanks
