You should be looking for financial advice. What is your likelihood
that you will obtain a GC? Is your husband's company willing to
sponsor for his green card? Are you planning to live in the home or
rent it out? Are you willing to take the tax penalty after you sell
your house if you live in it less than 2 years? If you purchase at an
area where the market is going up, you can most likely make money and
save money on taxes. However, do you have the time and do you want to
be burdened with a home when you need to move out of the country?
These are questions you need to ask yourself. Answers to your other
question follows:
> My husband and I would like to purchase a home but have no Green Card.
> Just H1B and L1 visas that will expire in 2.5 years from now.
>
> Is it better to hold and hope we will be drawn at the lottery?
You better not count on the lottery. By all means give it a shot, but
they don't call it the lottery for nothing.
> Can nversting in residential real estate help in getting a Green Card?
It will not help in any way whatsoever.
> Is it even possible to obtain a mortgage without a green card?
Yes it is. |
