Well he said he's a dual USC/Italian citizen... he never said he was
a German citizen so I'm just wondering where he gets the German
passport from?

It doesn't really matter anyway, since citizens of EU countries have the
right to travel, work and live in any of the EU countries... just
wondering where the heck the third nationality came in. That's what
doesn't add up.
