There are a number of reasons, and it seems to frustrate many Americans
but then we turn around and vacation there!!! Why?? Because we perceiv
that it is not too expensive but it is quite costly, and dangerous.
The Riviera Maya is being promoted very aggresively, and Americans an
Canadians are packing these resorts. When you read internationa
non-natural death reports Mexico contributes to 1/3 of the deaths.
That should certainly be telling us all something !!!
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico (AP) --
Local prosecutors have opened a new investigation into securit
measures at a salt water pool where an 8-year-old American boy died, a
official said Thursday.
Brent Midlock of Chicago drowned on April 26, 2003, while vacationin
with his family at the Grand Flamenco Xcaret hotel just south of thi
beach town. His body was later found in one of the pool's drainag
tubes.
Local prosecutor Luis Alberto May told The Associated Press on Thursda
that city officials have decided to investigate the hotel to determin
whether the resort was negligent.
Hotel officials have told prosecutors the pool was functioning properl
at the time of Brent's death, and that they were not responsible. Th
hotel referred all questions Thursday to a U.S. attorney, who wa
unavailable to comment.
Brent's mother, Nancy McCoy, applauded the investigation. She ha
maintained that her son was sucked into the drainage pipe, and that th
hotel should have taken measures to prevent his death.
"The reality they do not wish to accept is that these practices shoul
and will divert tourism dollars elsewhere," she said.
To this writer the caliber of owners/managers project very negativ
comments..."the pool was functioning properly" and "they were no
responsible". A child gets violently pulled in from behind 10 fee
into an open 12" inch drain pipe, and "they" are not responsible?? Th
Mex. Gov. has now concluded their investigation stating that th
"hotel"
is guilty of negligence, but no one individual? How completel
illogical is that?
With that type of gross injustice and mentality of course Mexicans ar
fleeing the borders.
From this story it is safe to conclude that the Gov. protects resort
that manslaughter inncocent children, and then offer investigation
that make no sense. How can a hotel kill a child. The only way an
one will ever get Mexico's attention (especially in the Riviera Maya
is to STOP PATRONIZING THE AREA. They need to recognize safety an
have regard for human life, and even the natives of Mexico know abou
the injustise, corruption, and their incredible ability to lie in th
