Subject: L-2 visas and marriage/workpermits Posted on: Tue, 04 Jan 2005 14:54:59 +0000

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help. I suspect I know the answer already
but thought someone might have some words of wisdom.

My partner and I have lived together for four years and have not yet
married due to not being able to see the point.

However, there is a very good chance he will have to move to the US on
an L-1 visa.

naturally, I would wish to go as well and as I have my own career which
I would like to continue, I would seek a work permit.

Now, I know for some permanent residency visas you have to be married
for two years to prove you are not trying to avoid immigration controls.

So I guess I have two questions:

1. Does the two year limit apply to L-2 based work permits
2. If it does, can a case be made due to living as man and wife for four
years previous

Knowing US immigration I suspect the answers are Yes and No. But I
live in hope
