The OP said *family sponsored*... There is no LC.
There is, however, a quota, and the OP will have to leave the country
once his 6 years on H1 run out.
PERM replaces the LC for employment-sponsored GCs. If his employer is
willing to start filing for an employment-based GC, that's a
possibility. But here as well, unless an I-485 can be filed before the
H1 runs out, he would be out of luck.
