Need some help with regaining my Green Card Posted on: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 16:57:06 +0000

Hello All,
This is my first post, and I hope some of you will be of help to me as
I am currently lost in the bewildering labyrinth that is US
immigration law.

Firstly, let me give you a brief outline of my situation.

I am a UK citizen and became a US Resident Alien (LPR) through the
Lottery in March 1992, aged 10. I lived in the US until August 1997,
when my parents moved me back against my decision. As I was only a
minor, aged 14, I had no choice and so had to return with them. I kept
relations with several friends in the US (both adult and of similar age)
and now I also have a long-term US partner. I am due to finish my
education in July, at which point I will be independent of my parents
and I wish to return to the US as soon as possible to renew my links
there. The only trouble is my LPR status will have been seen to be
relinquished as I have remained outside of the US for over a year.

Furthermore, my green card is a youth one (i.e. no thumb print) and
expired in 2002.

It is from my understanding that I have to apply for an SB-1 visa. I
can't find specific information on how to obtain the form from the US
Embassy London Website, although I'm pretty sure the form is DS-117.

Would someone please tell me if they think I have a decent case and if
so how I would go about filing. I've considered getting a lawyer, but
the initial consultation fee for the ones I've found so far has been
£300. I'd like some initial advice before I bite the bullet.

Thank you very much,
Matt
