I guess from the US passport point of view its cheaper to interview the
parents than work it out in court if the parent later says 'you let him/her
take my kids' that way the passport office cant be held liable..
Dosnt help the family much, if after a separation the partner at any time
wants to cause trouble later, but demonstrates due care and diligence in the
legal sense on the part of US passport office.
The Hague Convention on International Child Abduction, places huge demands
on signatory countries, and parents, that most parents are luckily never
aware of.
Been there, done that, got the emotional scars to show for it
(I went to international court and all I got was this lousy t-shirt)
safe from any further ex-wife attacks, but its been ten years.
