Subject: reentry permit questions Posted on: Sun, 26 Jun 2005 15:43:24 +0000 (UTC)

Hi,

I am a green card holder and will be working for a year or more outside
of the US. I am planning on coming to the US every 4-6 months however
my understanding would be that it might make sense to get a reentry
permit. I have a couple of questions about it:

1. Do I need a reentry permit or coming back every 4-6 months and
having a bank account, driver license and filing taxes in the US would
be enough to demonstrate that I have intent to return?

2. Is the reentry permit valid for one or two years?

3. Does getting reentry permit will increase the time requirement for
the naturalization?

4. I read that I have to apply for the permit at least 30 days before I
leave. However I might have to go earlier. Would it be a problem to
apply and leave right away?

5. If I have a reentry permit, can I use the foreign residence tax
exemption on my tax return? Does it alarm the INS if I use this
exemption since to use it I need to claim that I reside abroad?

Thanks a lot for your answers.
