The fee info is out there in a million places, but you were surprised
nonetheless. My spouse's case, for example, came close to $2000
including travel to the consulate.

Based on what you wrote, they don't want to live here, the Green Card is
not the right option and now you've spent the money.

Maybe start over and explain what you're trying to accomplish and where
everyone is from & any US visa history they have.
