Subject: Getting H-1 stamp in Canada Posted on: Sat, 3 Sep 2005 20:30:42 +0000 (UTC)

I am an Indian citizen. I have a F-1 visa on OPT, and have petitioned
for an H-1. I need to go to India in the end of Nov, and get my H-1
stamped since my F-1 visa has expired (though my OPT is current).

1. I plan to go to Canada to get my H-1 stamped, and fly from there to
India. That way, if my visa doesn't get approved, I still have another
shot in India without having to wait for long time for an appointment.
Does anyone know whether the US consulate in Canada returns your
passport after stamping on the same day? In India, you can't even get
your passport at the consulate. It will be sent to your address by
courier. Is there some restriction like that at the US Consulate in
Canada (Toronto, in particular)?

2. Is there any rule against Indian citizens already in the US getting
their first H-1 stamp in Canada?

Thanks,
-SD
