I don't know how it happened, but my wife got her emergency advance
parole this morning. After seeing our lawyer again, we went to the USCIS
and explained everything to the guard outside. He took our papers inside
and came back in a couple minutes and said we could go in for a walk-in.
We then explained everything again, showed the receipts for all our
forms, the death certificate, my wife's passport and birth certificate,
money order, etc. At first they asked for my mother in law's birth
certificate so they could have proof that my wife's grandmother was
really my mother in law's mother. But we explained we didn't have it and
because it's a Jewish funeral, it was tomorrow and we didn't have time
to get it. The officer took our case to whoever makes the decision and
about twenty minutes later, my wife got her advance parole. It's good
for multiple entries and valid for one year. We knew it was a complete
long shot of getting it, but considering the circumstances everything
worked out. We're leaving this afternoon and coming back on Thursday.
Thanks the advice.
