Its rather nice for independent contractors with experience in either
embedded systems, financial services and mobile and wireless
development using sought after tools like j2ms, j2ee and c++ etc. The
slight downside is your chances of a successful career either as a
contractor or full time technologist are severely diminished unless you
are truly a master of your domain. Also, quite unfortunately and
shockingly, racism is much more visibly present here than pretty much
anywhere in America and it is usually directed against well to do
people of of Indian subcontinental origin both in terms of physical
violence on a night bus in east london and ability to find high profile
work at British institutions.
