To clarify, what has expired is not directly to do with the adjustment
of status, but your permission to travel outside the US while the AOS is
pending. You can stay in the US as long as the AOS is pending, whether
you have AP or not. The AOS goes on until a final adjudication,
regardless of the AP. I never received AP before my status was adjusted,
for example...
