Hi Eg,

Your USC husband will still be your sponsor, even though he doesn't meet
the requirements. He will still complete the I-864, and provide the
supporting documents. Since he doesn't qualify financially, your friend
in California will be your joint sponsor, and will compete a separate
I-864 and provide her own supporting documents. It shouldn't be a
problem, as long as she qualifies.

I'm curious though...did your husband meet the requirements when you
first turned in your AOS paperwork? He would have had to submit an I-
864 at that time as well.
