I never applied for a US visa in Canada. If i had applied and had been
denied, I would not have qualified to use the the visa revalidation
rule. And yes
I used the visa automatic visa revalidation (AVR) twice.
1st time: No problem
2nd time: they wanted me to surrender my I-94. i was about to cry and
reminded myself not to argue with the immigration officer. Although i
was trying to show him a letter from my university about the AVR rule,
he sent me to a corner to fill out a new I-94. I said to myself all what
i care about is to re-enter the US. Then i will go to the office of
international students and told them that my I-94 was taken from me.
Luckily, when i filled out the form, i went to another line and
therefore another immigration officer. I showed the new officer the
letter that says i should not surrender my I-94. He let me keep it and
said it is better to have a new visa stamp next time and added what
would happened if you did not have your I-94, i.e. you lost it for any
reason and plus you have an expired visa, you would not be allowed entry
to the USA.
I wanted to tell him: yes, but i never lost my I-94 and that i keep my
documents nicely.
