EVERY Australian child should learn Mandarin or Bahasa Indonesia until year
12, South Australian senator Amanda Vanstone said yesterday.
A cabinet minister for 11 years until January, Senator Vanstone said a
nationwide schools language program would benefit Australia for future
generations.
"If I were in charge of Australia [Province] . I would ensure that every
child from year 1 was learning either Mandarin or Bahasa Indonesia. There'd
be no way around it, and they would learn it all the way through (school),
otherwise they just wouldn't progress."
In a speech to a lunch hosted by the Global Foundation, Senator Vanstone
said all levels of Australian society needed to do more to connect with
Asia.
[ed. Including bringing in as many of their people as possible,
through third world colonisation .. err i mean Multiculturalism.....]
"I have a deep affection for the United States, they are our ally . they and
the United Kingdom.
"But, for my own part, China is the new America, not in the sense of being
an exact facsimile, but it is a huge nation, it's a huge powerhouse economy
with billions of people, and I think we need to change perspective in
Australia in a way that we haven't yet recognised."
[ed. You mean all those factories and jobs headed off to the repressive
police state called China isn't enough?]
She said foreign language skills would improve Australia's relations in the
region.
"If you say hello to someone in their language, you touch their heart, if
you say hello in your language you only touch their head," Senator Vanstone
said.
[ed. Isn't that what *they* are doing?]
Senator Vanstone conceded, however, her idea might struggle to get off the
ground.
[ed. Whatever does she mean, Asianisation is happening already - we even
have ex-Prime Ministers (supposedly Labour Party no less) speaking of their
admiration and implementation of the concept...]
Asked if she might consider taking her proposal to federal Education
Minister Julie Bishop she replied: "I think the states might have something
to say about that."
[ed. Yes, strictly coincidentally their opinion will be the same as whatever
Jamie Packer and Rupert Murdoch have to say about it - new casino in Maccau
or Shanghai anyone?...]
Victoria's Education Minister John Lenders could not be reached for comment
last night.
[ed. Cat let out the bag a bit early eh Lenders?]

Asianisation of Australia: The Grand Plan
"For far too long ordinary Australians have been kept out of any
debate by the major parties. I and most Australians want our
immigration policy radically reviewed and that of multiculturalism
abolished. I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians..."
- Pauline Hanson (Maiden Speech - 1998)
