I feel for you. My son is in the same boat.
FWIW, USCIS *cannot* tell you WHEN your background checks will be
completed. They don't know. But it is worth checking with them every now
and again just to make sure the background check hasn't come back and
simply hasn't been matched up with your file.
However, I generally make an Infopass appointment as I have found the
misinformation line completely pointless, even for such a simple query.
But this may not be feasible for you if you live far from your CIS...
